Nice review. What you described is pretty much my favorite flavor profile. I wish I had three hours for a cigar. One of these days I should just take a day off from work and smoke the cigars I normally wouldn't have time for.
Yeah I don't usually like smoking that long unless I'm doing poker or risk but I figured I needed to do a good review of it so I did. I can't think of a cigar that lasted this long, even the beast didn't.. lol

I have an Opus X 'A' that will probably never get smoked unless I took a day off just to do it.

A local shop near me has these for around $20. I clearly need to pick up a couple one of these days. Or if you're buying a box, hit me up if you want to sell me or trade me a couple!

  • La Flor Dominicana Limitado IV

First I want to thank a fellow member for telling me where to pick up these sticks!

    La Flor Dominicana Limitado IV

    Wrapper: Nicaraguan
    Binder: Dominican
    Filler: Dominican
    Made In: Dominican Republic
    Size: 6.25×52 – Toro

    PRE-Light:

This stick is like any other LFD, incredibly well constructed. The wrapper pops with a raisin flavor and for some reason I cannot stop sniffing it.. lol. Okay so after punching the cigar I take a few draws (a bit tight) and I get some pepper with raisin. After trying to open up the draw a bit I start to light the cigar...

    First 1/3:
After lighting up the cigar I pick up some raisin and pepper along with wood. The draw could be a bit looser but it isn't all that bad. Smoke fills the room; which isn't super sweet but still on the sweet side. Wood, spice and tobacco fill the mouth and are stronger through the nose. Can this cigar give me some strength? Well hopefully.

    1/2 Way:
After moving along past the first third I continue to pick up wood, raisin, spice/pepper, and tobacco. The cigar seems to be building up and I could be looking at a full bodied cigar! yay! Up until this point the burn has been good but now it's starting to be stubborn. One side keeps burning out and I have to keep touching it up. The ash is a dark grey and seems sturdy, only a few flakes come off. The draw seems to be a bit better than it was as well. Spice begins to take the primary spectrum of flavors with the raisin taking a back step. Still the cigar has a nice set of flavors.

    Finishing Up:
After moving past the 1/2 way mark the cigar is getting stronger with pepper and now any raisin seems to be gone. I still am picking up wood, tobacco, spices (not pepper but maybe anise), and some floral notes. The burn is still uneven on the one side but touching it up seems to be working well. The ash seems told hold about an inch or so and is rather solid. The aroma seems to be stronger than before with a strong tobacco and spice. As I get to the end of the cigar it is staring to heat up. While I start to slow my draw times, it is hard as the one side goes out so often. While I keep touching it up, I am hit with some harshness and after a few times of this I decide to let it rest.

    Thoughts:
While this was a really fresh stick (arrived yesterday) and they do seem a bit dry; I was pretty impressed with this cigar. I would say that this is one of the strongest LFD's I've had, save the chisel maduro. Some reviews have this cigar being a spice/pepper bomb but I really didn't feel it was. Say an Opus could hold that, this cigar had more going on. The floral notes and the wood really melded well with the spice/pepper and the raisin was a very nice addition. I have several more which I'm going to let sit for a long time and hopefully it will build up to a very nice, balanced, and well rounded cigar.

Nice review Pheebs. Made me wish I had some of them. You figure the burn was off because they were dry... not too fresh?

thanks guys. laker, I don't know. Maybe. Either way I'm going to let these sit for a year and then spark another one. Hopefully there's some nice changes.

Just smoked my first. I let mine rest three weeks. Really, it wasn't as strong as I expected. Definitely not even close to the DL chisel. But all the flavors you mentioned were right one. Had a nice sweetness on the finish, with pepper through the nose. Lots of good natural tobacco flavor as well. It was easily the best constructed stick I've had. Only ashed twice to the band, once at halfway, second when it hit the band. The burn was razor sharp and the draw was great. I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it. So glad I have 4 left. And the smoke from the foot even smelled like raisins. I couldn't stop sniffing the thing.
