I look at sticks like Tatuaje, Graycliff, and Illusione that have very basic labels and are great sticks and I look at some other sticks that have elaborate labels like Gurkha, and the overall experience is not great. Any thoughts on this? What's your favorite stick with an understated band.
I will start with my understated label pick - Fuente Anejo.

I Love, or at least have a strong prediliction to:

I felt the need to start this thread to combat the evilness of the things I hate thread.

It was a Don Tomas, and I understand that may not have been the best guage of a candela, but either way, it left a pretty nasty, 'vegetable' (for lack of a better word) finish that got more prominent the more I smoked. The 'grassy' flavor that i always hear about was subtle on the palate and i didn't really mind that

So what are everyone else's thoughts/experiences?

Do you like them?
Arturo Fuente Grand Reserve Maduro
Robusto 4.5x50 (Although AF doesnt call it a Robusto, they call it a Chateau Fuente)
Wrapper - Connecticut Maduro
Binder - ??
Filler - AF Dominican
Ok, so on the car ride home last night I lit up an Arturo Fuente Grand Reserve Maduro. It was the robusto size (but they dont call it a Robusto 4.5 x 50). So I did try to review it sitting in my car before leaving the work parking lot.

Wrapper: Dark, not the black like many maduro's, but a nice dark brown, not very oily more toothy. Veins in the wrapper were few and far between and thin when you could make them out. One problem with the wrapper was a small 'chip' in one of the turns due to poor handling.
Smell: Real Tobacco, Ive heard Barnyard be used and that may have applied, but a strong tobacco smell --Im new at this so that is all I got of the whiff--

Lick the cap: I have never done this before, but see a few people do it here so here goes. --I got no flavor, but could feel the niccotine immediately hit my tongue.

I cut this with a double guillotine just enough to get a nice ring off the bottom (I dont know maybe 1/32 of an inch)

INSERT EDIT - I was asked about the draw pre light and I can only remember that I didnt recongnize any problems with the draw -- Not too tight or not too loose--

Here is where the fun begins -- I light it with a single flame torch. It lights up nicely, I blow on the end to ensure a nice even light.

INSERT EDIT -- I recently lit up a cigar with my torch lighter in the dark and realized that I have been cooking my sticks. You can really see the torch flame in the dark compared to in sunlight and lit porch etc. So when in doubt keep the torch a little further away!!!!!

I blow the 1st puff out the end of the stick --This is another first for me as I usually puff puff draw at this point -- The light is fired nicely and I really look at the smoke. It is that nice cobalt blue smoke with lots of smoke. So I take a puff puff draw and really try to get the flavor of the cigar swirling around my mouth. I know that the flavor may not build for a bit. So really Im not geting much in the flavor dept and ===BINGO cell phone rings and its work ===

So I have to talk for a few minutes and I have to re light by the time Im done with the call. Im doing most of the talking.
So I relight (see torching cigars above) and think I do a fairly good job of it. --Does this ruin a stick? after just 1-2 puffs?? Anyway I finish my call and get this thing re torched.

Again trying to get the flavor as I am smoking this. I couldnt get the smoke up and out my nose but will work on that aspect of tasting. Anyway as I am driving I get som pepper spice some other undetermined flavor and then all I can really describe the flavor as is a pine nut. Hmmm I was doubting myself at that point becasue I have never heard of a pine nut flavor in a cigar, but I kept coming back to that flavor along with some other flavor I couldnt quite put my finger on.

The ash has run about 1 1/4 inches without any problem, but Im in the car so I ash it as I dont want it to drop in my lap. It was a nice tight ash with a really nice contrast to the dark brown maduro cigar.
So the cigar has a burn issue after ashing and needs a corrective light and really after the half way point the flavors for me are out and all I get is tobacco (in a good way). With about 1 3/4 - 1 1/2 inches left the smoke turns pretty hot and my palate is burnt out at this piont.
INSERT EDIT -- Im thinking that this is due to me torching my cigars too much that I learned this weekend.

My tobacco guy said that this was medium to full body and my opinion is that this is full all the way. Not sure what other tasters have to say about this or if this is just that I havent smoked enough to really determine a full body cigar. The niccotine has a pretty good punch and I feel it when I get out of the car.

So I am at my dinner table last night eating - Roasted Brussel Sprouts and I eat the first one -- I think I had a flashback as that was the flavor that I really couldnt put my finger on. A nice roasted bitter flavor. Not necessarily brussel sprouts, but could be any roasted dark vegetebal. I thought I was crazy, again, but remembered reading a kuzi Post saying he tasted spinach in a cigar.

I wont try and hit this with a number scale rating - but overall I would smoke this cigar again. I think I wouldnt smoke it right from the shop but would let it rest for a while. I have a 2nd that is in my humi that I will let rest for a couple months and see how it smokes compared to this one.

ADDED EDIT
This is a good cigar for those who like full bodied cigars. I would say that this would go nicely after a full hearty dinner (Think STEAK) with a nice glass of Cabernet, maybe even a mixed whiskey drink - A rob roy or possibly a Rum - cubre libre.

Henry Clay

Just found a box of Henry Clay Cigars in our garage , They were produced on 25 Feb 1965 (stamped) also stamped below is Made In Havana Cuba and the words C.ClARO. Read an article, and was surprised at some of the responses, regarding individuals who have a rotation schedule for their cigars. I've also seen responses from individuals on these forums which show that most people have a general rotation schedule they like to stick to...whether it's 2 mos to a year. It almost seems like a smart idea to have some set aside while also having regulars smokes you can go to on a daily basis.

Why is it all shriveled...

Often times when I close, I take a cigar to work with me in a cigar case with a built in humidification device. Since it was pretty hot out, I didn't want to leave it in the car, so I took it in and put it in my drawer at work. I get to my car tonight and take it out to light it up, and the wrapper was shriveled up and it was kind of bent in the middle. Not wanting to waste a tasty Sun Grown label, I lit it up and it seemed fine. I got through maybe the first 1/3 and there was no sign of shrinkage or anything and it turned out to be a great smoke. But what pisses me off is I order a nice two finger case and they send me a F#$)'n alligator three finger case that I have to go out and buy a old 78 Caddy just so the case doesnt look out of place. After two months of calling and the phone getting answered once. the person told me the Items were on back order and would be sent to me. That was a month and a half ago. Today after finally getting through because no-one answers the phone I finally get through and the rep tells me I have to send back the old case that I did not order to get my new case that I F#$#'n order on my dime. After a long go around she is willing to send me a shipping label very hesitantly like I'm screwing her over. And as far as my goodies well that promo is over and even though the advertized it for two more months after my purchase and they were out of stock at the time of my purchase I'm *** out of luck and they will not give anything not even a bumper sticker saying bend over.

Sarah Palin... yes I said it. I dunno, this article is rather interesting.. There are a lot of red flags, and it seems like this sort of "lies and secrets" thing that Palin and now the would-be governor in Arizona thrive on seems to really work. I don't get how people who don't debate or at least come out in an open forum and when do can't form any complete sentences or really use facts can be so popular. Anyway I'm sure you'll flame the hell out of this but in any case try to read the article. I was actually surprised to hear that the author went into this a pro-palin.

Zebrawood & Walnut Humidor

This one is coming out nicely.... I think the walnut goes great with the zebrawood.... I can't wait to get further along with her....

She's 16" x 12" x 9" and should yield right around 250 count...

This one is not spoken for so, we'll see where she winds up...

The blend sports a beautiful and oily Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper, often found on some of the most expensive and highest-rated super premiums in the industry. As with all our House Blends, Sun Grown Label ships free with any box purchase!

We received a ton of requests, for years, to add a tasty Sun Grown cigar to our popular House Blends line. However, we refuse to add line extensions unless we can find premium blends that taste just as good as the industry's most popular comparable brands. To complete our Sun Grown Label, we approached AJ Fernandez who created a fantastic blend we are very proud to now offer.

Cigar.com Sun Grown Label hails from Nicaragua and features a zesty blend of Nicaraguan long leaves, all balanced by one of AJ Fernandez's best tasting premium Sun Grown wrappers grown in Ecuador. The result is a full-bodied, hearty cigar with natural sweet flavors on the finish that are masked by bold, robust characters ranging from spice to black pepper. Expect a leathery aroma that exudes toasty wood notes as the blend burns slow and even from head to foot.
<a href='http://www.cigar.com/DailyDeal/ccCigarDeals.asp' title='View today's Daily Cigar Deal'>View today's Daily Cigar Deal

5 Vegas Miami for 5 Vegas Limitada '08???

Hey guys, shot in the dark here... Lets get it going again boys.

Ok, so how about year #2 for this game on here---in honor of the Pigskin Season.

One post per person, per week to pick the winners of each Pro Football Game that weekend...with the tie breaker being the total points scored on the Monday Night Game.

Each persons picks have to be in by 11:59pm the night before the games kickoff (ie this Saurday night, Wedneday night prior to Thanksgiving, ect.).

Winner gets a minimum of 4 cigar selection ...no rules on the sticks, but of course no Phillies or Black N Mild either. Winner of each week becomes the sender to the winner the next week...and you can play every week you are eligible if you desire.

Hope to have some takers on this one...get your picks in and I will have a nice little something out to the winner about this next time week to start the season.

IL Herf

Just wondering if all you IL guys wanted to get together for a herf and when.
